My name is James Howells. I would like to start out by telling you a little
bit about my views on teaching. As the teacher it is my responsibility to
make my students want to learn. Without motivation, content is like a buried
treasure. For this reason the academics and recreational activities in my
classroom are centered on my students’ individual needs and interests. I
make every effort to take a student’s personal interests and bring them into
my classroom. I use this knowledge as a tool to foster growth in and among
my students. Using what a student enjoys is a strong tool for reaching
behavioral and academic goals.
Realizing that students learn from different methods, I try to expose my
students to many different learning experiences in my room. I prefer the
hands-on approach for math and science. I like my students to experience
social studies and the world around them. In my reading and English classes,
I will expose the students to the classics and modern literature. It is
important to note that at any given time I will adapt my methodology to best
suite my students’ needs, for my number one priority is that my students
take an active role in their learning.
