Troika Dance and other Russian dances

  • Music:  This week we learned four different Russian dances.  Troika, Kalinka, Dance of the Soldiers, and Ihali Kozaki.
  • Please have this information in your notes:
  •      The word "troika" in Russian means "sleigh".  Originally the troika dance was meant to be danced in groups of one boy/man and two girls/women.  The traditional folk dance was meant to represent the prancing of the horses as they pull the sleigh.
  •    Originally the word "kalinka" in Russian meant "snowball tree", however today "kalinka" is just a name and is a very popular dance.  The kalinka dance displays the cheerful soul of the Russian people.
  •    The "Dance of the Soldiers" is an all-male dance which reflects a time of war into the interpretation.
  •    "Ihali Kozaki" is Russian for "The Cossacks were Riding".  Cossacks are the Russian version of the American cowboy.

  • PENCILS/erasers - If you hand in an assignment to me that is in pen, you will get points off for this.  Please follow directions!
