Sample research paper

Here is a great link to get you started!
This link (in PDF format) offers advice on how to write your research paper (including abstract) -- it is also given out in class to each student.

Frequently asked questions:

1. How do I write a purpose and hypothesis?
Your purpose (problem) should be the question that you are trying to answer by doing the experiment (i.e. Do dogs bark more during the day or at night?).  Your hypothesis is your educated guess for the answer to your purpose (i.e. I think dogs bark more at night than during the day).  You should be as specific as possible for both purpose and hypothesis.

2. What do I write in my journal?
You should keep track of everything you do for the science fair in  your journal.  Write the date at the top of the page and log what you decided, what you have completed, notes that you found research on, a rough draft of your paper, etc.  I should be able to look at your journal and understand every step that you took to complete your science fair project.  START THE JOURNAL FROM DAY 1!

3.  How many sources do I need?
You need to use at least 5 sources.  You also must cite them properly in your paper.

4. How do I show that I've done research or started my experiment?
You can have a parent or guardian write a note to verify this or you can bring in your research or results notes or a picture of you completing the experiment.
