Yes, it is best to discuss tutoring needs with your child's
homeroom teacher ~ who will be able to refer you to a teacher to
meet your child's needs.
Is it necessary to write an absentee note when my child returns to class if the parent calls into the office on the morning of the absence?
Yes it is necessary to write an absentee note because the
teachers need verification of the absence.
When my child forgets something, should I bring it to school?
If it is something important like lunch and you are able to bring
it to school, yes. Most books and assignments can wait until the
next day, and your child will receive the appropriate classroom
consequence. If, however, you decide to bring something to
school ~ please take it to the main office and it will be sent to
the classroom.
What is the purpose of homework?
The purpose of homework is to reinforce the daily learning
process. Studies have shown that doing homework raises retention
levels significantly.
Are students given homework on the weekends?
Yes, on occasion the pace of the curriculum requires students to
complete homework assignments on the weekend, especially in the
upper grades.
What is the homework policy for vacation and multiple sick days?
The policy can be found in the handbook on page 7 under ~
Absence,
and on page 8 under ~ Family Trips.
Are challenge words included on the spelling tests?
Although most teachers include the challenge words on spelling
tests, not all do. Please check w/individual teacher.
Why does my child need to provide headsets?
For sanitary reasons, as well as health and cleanliness, each
student needs to provide his/her own headset in a ziploc baggie.
Is there bus service for Pre-K field trips?
No, parents must drive their children to the trips, but much
advance notice is given of the dates.
Do students wear their gym uniform all day or do they change back into the regular uniform?
On gym day, the students wear the gym uniform all day.
Can non-Catholic children attend St. Catherine's? Will you try to make them Catholic?
Yes, if there is available space in the particular grade. No, we
will not try to make the children Catholic, but they will be
required to take Religion classes and participate in all
religious activities.
Do most of the Kindergarten students remain for full-day? Is it mandatory that students remain full-day and is there a half-day option?
Yes, most of the Kindergarten students do remain all day.
However, at SCS we do offer a half-day option and some students
attend the half-day program. Some students begin the school year
attending the half-day program and then transition to full-day
with parental and administrative approval.
