Report Card
Report cards are issued three {3} times a year
and reflect a student's class participation, home study and a variety of
assessments completed within each trimester period. No child will fail who is
doing his/her best. Parents are asked to review report cards carefully with
their child. Progress reports will be sent home during each trimester to
inform parents of their child's progress prior to report cards being issued.

into the program.
Homework
The value of homework depends upon the student's
interest in continuing his/her learning experiences. The student gains values
when he/she understands these facts:
1. Homework has a definite function in enriching
and extending what the student has learned in class.
2. It is preparation for sharing with others
something the student has discovered, read or created.
3. It is practice to improve basic skills.
Parents have the responsibility to provide a
scheduled time and a quiet place conducive to study and to exhibit a real
interest in their child's accomplishments.
The recommended time allotment for assignments
suggested by the Archdiocesan Office of Catholic Education is:
Grade 1-2 - - - - 30 minutes
Grade 3-4 - - - - 60 minutes
Grade 5-6 - - - - 90 minutes
Grade 7-8 - - - - 120 minutes
Homework assignments schould not exceed these
limits
Homework may often consist of study ONLY and
should be regarded as important as written work. Weekends and holidays are
usually free from wirtten assignments. In grades 4-8 homework will be written
daily in the school homework notebook and signed by parents
daily.
Failure to complete homework is incorporated
into the subject's mark at the end of each report period. Repeated missing
homework will result in conference with parents, principal and teachers.
Students may be placed on academic probation.
Grades 1-3: Notification of effort in
completing work will be on a daily/weekly basis.
Grades 4-8: Demerits will be issued
for missed homework assignments at the discretion of the teacher.
When a student is absent, homework will be
assigned as make-up work following the student's return to class with a set
date for completion.
Academic Probation
Students are encouraged and supported to do
their best work. Through contact with parents, teachers work together to
promote the common good of the child. If a child repeatedly fails to complete
homework assignments or receives more than 2 failures on a report card, the
child will be placed on academic probation for the next trimester with the
following implementations:
- Teacher
will inform the parents/guardians of the student's progress. The progress will
follow the stated format:
- parent contact
- trimester progress reports
- periodic meetings with student
- trimester report card
- If the student is successful in meeting
his/her academic responsibilities, the student will be removed from academic
probation..
- If
the student is unsuccessful in meeting his/her academic responsibilites, the
administration will review the student's continued enrollment in the school.
Parent-Teacher Conference
Formal conferences are held once a year. Parents
are encouraged to call the office at any time to set up an appointment with a
teacher should a concern arise. We value the input that you alone can provide.
The better the communication, the easier it is to best direct your child in
his/her educational endeavors.
Teachers may not be interrupted
during the school day. Parents must report to the school office to register
and sign in. Parents should never go directly to a classromand interrup the
classes.. Appointments must always be made in advance. Notes written to
teachers should always be enclosed in an envelope.
Retention
Student progress is monitored throughout the
school year. At the December report card period, the parents/guardians are
informed of the student's academic, social and emotional progress. In February
{sooner, if deemed necessary} the teacher{s} will contact the
parent/guardian of a student who continues to experience difficulty, to
discuss the possibility of retention and support services. By the end of May,
the teacher will schedule a follow-up meeting with the parents/guardians. If
retention is indicated, the parents/guardians will receive an official
notification which must be signed and returned to the school administration.
Testing
Terra Nova Standardized Test is administered to
students in grades 2 through 8 each school year.
Graduation
Eighth grade students who have successfully
completed the prescribed course of study and maintained a suitable discipline
record are eligible for graduation if all financial obligations have been met.
Procedures for graduation are determined by the Administration and the eighth
grade teacher.
Library
Every student has the opportunity of selecting
books from the library each week. Students are responsible for the care of
books. They are required to return them to the library when due and must pay
for any they lose or destroy. New books are added as the school budget allows.
The Guidelines used in the
instruction of students in all subject areas for all grade levels are
