Content Journals for First Grade
The Content Journal is used to encourage the children to explain what they have just learned. We discuss topics in the classroom and then they are given a question to answer or a sentence frame to complete. They are encouraged to write with clarity and they are reminded of the conventions of writing. The Content Journal spans all content areas and is meant to show the growth the children have made throughout the year.

The students have been shown the Rubric prior to writing and know what is being graded and what to check for.
