    Quick Notes

    EXAM SCHEDULE

Tuesday, June 5  --  Science and Religion
    Wednesday, June 6  --  Math
    Thursday, June 7  --  ELA
Friday, June 8  --  Social Studies

Pretzel Money -- Pretzel money is $0.45/day, $2.25/full week.  It will be collected on Friday mornings.  Please put your child's name and the amount enclosed on the front of an envelope.  Exact amount is required since change cannot be given.  Thanks for your cooperation.

    Content Journals
Saint Joseph School has initiated a writing program for every subject. The topic assigned is to be completed in their Content Journals .  Each child is to take his Content Journal to every class.  Here they will be given a topic on which to express their knowledge of the subject matter.  In my classes, I am looking for a topic sentence that incorporates the question, clarity of the explanation, correct factual information, and a concluding sentence.  Entries must be a minimum of five sentences long and are to be completed in class.  There is no set time schedule for this assignment, however, at times I have given the students a heads up so they have a chance to review the material.
Please ask your child to show you his work.  As we continue this effort, we should be able to see progress being made!

    Tests
Last year the upper floor teachers began a new procedure for scheduling tests to ensure that no class has more than two major tests on the same day.  A sheet will be posted at the end of each week in the hallway that lists the day of the following week and the subject of each test to be given.  This allows both the teachers and the students to verify the dates.  Of course, the best way for the pupils to keep track of their assignments is to use their homework books following each class.  They are given more than ample time and encouragement to fill them in completely.

    Homework Books
Please check and sign your child's homework book nightly.  I will be checking and initialing them periodically also. Students are prompted after each class and also at the end of the day with information regarding the materials to be taken home.  Assignments are also listed on the board daily.

    First in Math
Saint Joseph's is introducing a new program called First in Math.  The students will be introduced to the program in our computer class. The program is designed to build numerical fluency and strengthen basic skills. It can be used anywhere you have internet access and will be employed mostly at home. Each class is an online team and each child will be assigned their own User ID and password.  Keep on the lookout for further information as we begin this program.  It should be fun as the students experience the satisfaction of achievement.
