At SJR, as in all the elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, standardized testing is used to level grade ambiguity, provide accountability for our students, teachers and administration, and communicate our performance levels to the public.
In the 2008 –2009 school year, all students in kindergarten through Eighth Grade took the TerraNova3 standardized tests. This is the most current release of the test and compares results to the most recent norms. The content of TerraNova 3 is not strictly parallel to the content of other TerraNova tests. The TerraNova 3 Reading, Language and Mathematics tests assess higher depths of knowledge overall. Reading and Language items do not share the same theme any more. The Terra Nova 3 language scale starts at Grade 3. Some previous language objectives have been folded into the TerraNova3 Reading tests for the Kindergarten through 2nd Grade students. Please consider these differences when evaluating changes in scores from a previous years TerraNova results.
The Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Grade Students are assessed in the subject areas of Reading, Language, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. 2nd Grade Students are assessed in Spelling as well.
The 3rd Grade – 8th Grade Students are assessed in the subject areas of Reading, Language, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Spelling. In addition, these students are given the In-View test. In-View consists of five subtests:
•Sequences
•Analogies
•Quantitative Reasoning
•Verbal Reasoning – Words
•Verbal Reasoning – Context
From this a Cognitive Skills Index (CSI) is derived. This number proves to be an indicator of school related aptitude. In addition, it provides an anticipated achievement score for the specific subjects areas on the TerraNova3 exam.
Below are the 2008 - 2009 SJR results as compared to the Archdiocese and the Catholic Schools in Bucks County. If you have any questions, please contact the school office at 215/343-5100.
