APPLE OF MY EYE: Congratulations to the latest winners: Ryan Connolly, Peter Mastrocco, Megan Prior, David McReynolds, and Christina Lyons.  I hope that Santa is taking notice!

SERVICE CORPS ACTIVITIES: Our Service Corps continues to sponsor a host of wonderful activities:
·       Door Decorating Contest: Congratulations to Grade 2 and their decorators who were named the winners of our first annual Door Decorating Contest.  The winners will enjoy a movie and popcorn together one day in January.

SANTA CLAUS CAME TO TOWN – SJR”VILLE”: Last Thursday morning, we had a very special visitor to SJR!  Santa Claus made a surprise visit to the children in Pre-K through grade 2 to deliver answers to the letters they had written to him.  Good news!  He checked each classroom and found no one on his “naughty” list! (I could have told him that!)

THE DROWSY SHEPHERD: Tonight’s the night!  Please be sure that the children are in Monsignor Marley Hall no later than 6:45 (in costume).  We will begin the program promptly at 7pm.  I promise you that you will leave feeling filled with the Spirit of the Season. *** We have a videographer coming to record the program.  Please leave your camcorders at home and come and enjoy “being in the moment” with us.  ***

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 23: The children will be attending the 9:00 Mass on Wednesday.  In addition, the children may add Christmas ribbons, socks, bells, hats, etc. to their uniforms for the morning.

GEOGRAPHY BEE: The Geography Bee provided an exciting ending!  Congratulations to our winner, Nick Speranza, who had to participate in a “Bonus Round” to be declared the winner!  Congratulations to all of our participants who made us so proud of their knowledge of the world around them: Frank McGlinchey, Kevin Brady, Maura Gricoski, Claire Repisky, Alexandra Capozzi, Sean Coogan, Brian Schoener, Cassie Stapf, Matt Funk, Liam Whelihan, Tim Quigley, Michael Landry, Julia Wursta, Brandon Huegel, Jimmy Austin, Brianna Heck, Katie DiFurio, Matthew Cassidy, Maureen Clark, Maura Ferry, Michael Griffiths, Tommy Funk, Will Burdulis, Sam Theirs, Josh Messina, James Spingler, Jamie D’Ardenne.

CONGRATULATIONS!: Congratulations to the Costigan family on the arrival of baby “Jake”!  Big Brother JT, mother, and baby are all doing well!

PRETZELS AND JUICE ORDERS: Information is coming home today about the orders that will begin in January.  Payment will be due on Wednesday, January 6th.  Please be sure that separate checks are sent in for pretzels and juice.

CHRISTMAS VACATION: The Christmas break will begin tomorrow at our 12:00 dismissal.  All school districts will be providing transportation.  No CARES will be available after dismissal.

SCHOOL RE-OPENS: The children will return to school on Tuesday, January 5, 2010.  Enjoy the holiday break!

THANK YOU!: On behalf of the faculty and staff of SJR, please accept our thanks for the many kindnesses you have extended to us at Christmas time and throughout the year.  It is a gift to be a part of the SJR Community! We hope that Christmas and the New Year will be filled with joy and peace!

JUST A THOUGHT: Last week, SJR was literally reverberating with excitement.  We had Santa stop by, classroom doors were all decorated and judged, preparations continued for “The Drowsy Shepherd”, our Christmas video debuted, and the Live Nativity took place. Oh, and did I mention SNOW was in the air?
However, each day we began and ended our time together by “making ourselves quiet for prayer”.  In the hectic times in which we live, isn’t it nice that the children might lead us to see a simple way to begin and end our days?
