Spelling Homework Activities

Be a SHARP speller!

See - Look at the word
Hear - Say the word aloud.
Adopt - Close your eyes.  Spell the word.
Record - Cover the word.  Write the word.
Proofread - Check the word.



Complete the assigned activity in your Spelling Copybook.


1. Write the words 2 times.
2. Write the words in UPPER CASE, then lower case.
3. Write the words in ABC order.
4. Write the words, and then trace them using a light colored crayon.
5. Write the words.  Circle all consonants and underline all vowels.
6. Print each of your spelling words in pencil but leave a space for each     
vowel. Go back and write the missing vowel with your red pen.
7. Box all the words.
8. Write the words in a pattern of Upper case-lower case.
9. Pick any 3 spelling words.  Use each of them in a sentence.  
   Underline the spelling word. Remember to stretch the sentence so that it
   tells a good story.  Each sentence must have at least 7 words in it.
10. Write 6 sentences with most words beginning with the same letter as the
    spelling word.  Underline the spelling word.
    Example: Megan makes mighty big messes most mornings.
11. Choose 5 words from the list that can be drawn and draw them.  Under the
    picture write the spelling word or phrase with the spelling word in it.
    For example, if the spelling word is fast and you draw a car, write fast
    car under your picture.  Neatly color your pictures.
12. Use a magazine/newspaper to spell 7 of your spelling words.  Cut out the
    words or cut out the letters and put them together to make the words.
13. Design a bookmark.  Draw and color a picture on the front of the 
bookmark.  Write your spelling words on the back. Use a ruler to draw lines 
for your spelling words.

COMPLETE THESE ACTIVITIES WITH A PARENT OR OLDER SIBLING

Popsicles- make words using popsicles sticks.

Etch-A-Sketch- Use an Etch-A-Sketch to write your words.

3D words- use modeling clay rolled thinly to make your word.

Picture Words- find pictures of your words in old magazines.  Cut them out 
and make a colage.

Create a word search or crossword puzzle.
