If a bus arrives late to school, is the student marked "late?"
The student is not marked late if his/her bus arrives late in the morning to
the school grounds.
Why is wearing the school uniform correctly so important?
Wearing the school uniform proudly and correctly is important for self-
discipline and responsibility. As a student progresses through school
he/she
must learn not only book knowledge, but the life skills which he/she will
carry throughout the years ahead. In most cases, people must be dressed
professionally for the careers they pursue. What better way to instill this
life skill than to begin now, in the childhood and teenage years! Thank you
for your interest in this information/question.
What is Sister Diane Marie's preferred method of communication?
While e-mail is certainly very popular with many/most people, Sister
prefers
phone calls, if at all possible. Parish and Archdiocesan group members do
have my personal e-mail and these communications will be answered in as
timely a manner as is possible, considering all responsibilities. God bless
you!
Will there be e-mail attached to this website?
There is e-mail attached to this website. Parents may use it. However, I
am only able to respond to these e-mails approximately twice each week. If
you leave a message on this e-mail please allow at least two to three days
for a response. Thank you much!
Who interprets the discipline section of our student guidelines and handbook?
The administration and faculty makes the final interpretation of
disciplinary
action to be taken in any given situation. Respectfully we accept parent
opinions and input but the final decision rests with the faculty. This
statement is made in our current handbook.
Will the student/family handbook be updated soon?
Yes, the handbook is gradually being re-done and will be issued by the
beginning of 2008-2009. In addition, we are planning to be paperless with
this handbook, as much as possible. The new handbook will be on-line by the
beginning of the next school year.
Are there Junior High dances in Lent?
No, Visitation School and CYO has traditionally not held dances in Lent.
The
students of the past and present have practiced "giving up" this one
activity during the Lenten time in a special act of penance or in a special
intention.
Do Sports continue during Lent?
Yes, all sports activities continue for all grade levels in Lent.
How do we take notes by the Cornell Method?
Use notebook paper, loose-leaf or similar paper. Use only one side of the
paper. Draw vertical lines approximately 2.5 inches from the left side of
the paper. Take notes on the right side of the paper. Skip lines to show
the end of ideas or thoughts. Strive for short phrases and key points.
How shoud the students read and study from the Cornell Method notes?
Read the notes, make them more legible. Use the left column to jot ideas or
key words that give you the idea of the lecture. Try covering the right
portion of your notes to see if you can recall the ideas and concepts. Use
the left column as a review outline.
What is the guideline regarding taking textbooks home each day?
We do not want the students to take more than two textbooks home for study
at night. Most work and notes are in the workbooks and copybooks. Of
course, the Math textbook will be needed for practice and study many nights
and one other book may be added. For the most part, this is our
guideline. If students are taking home more books than this, perhaps it is
due to their conscientious work ethic. I would be happy to have a talk with
them about how to choose the books and similar organizational skills.
Please don't hesitate to contact me.
What books will be provided for a student who is ill?
We will not give textbooks to another student to carry home for a sibling or
friend who is ill. We will provide homework assignments and workbooks
and/or copybooks. If a parent would like the textbooks, he/she must make
arrangements to pick them up at the Office.
Is there a registration fee in 2009-2010
For the school year 2009-2010 there is a registration fee which has been
included in the tuition fees. There is NO SEPARATE CHECK required.
Everything is included on the TMS form and total.
Are students permitted to ride buses of districts in whcih they do not reside?
The answer to this question is "negative." Due to insurance regulations
students may not ride buses from a district in which they do not reside. we
ask that parents not request that we allow this change because we, at
school, are not permitted to sign such a request. These regulations are
from the districts.
