Homework is an important part of a student's educational experience. It provides practice of new skills, builds strong work ethic, keeps parents informed of what their child is learning, boosts self esteem and prepare students for reaching greater levels of academic success.
Parents and educators share a responsibility of providing the support needed for students to develop consistency in completing homework assignments. Students have the responsibility of taking advantage of the resources parents and educators provide.
The middle school closely monitors homework completion for both day and residential students. When 2 homework assignments are missed within a nine week grading period, parents will receive a notice and the student will receive a 30 minute detention hall during the school day.
Students who demonstrate inconsistent homework patterns will be placed on homework monitoring. This requires students to have both teachers and parents sign his/her assignment book daily. Students may also be given additional support time to complete assignments in school. The goal is to provide support that will set a pattern of consistency.
