My first teaching experience was on the high school level, in Canada, where
I taught both French and Art. I was on the faculty at Parkdale Collegiate
Institute in Toronto, (3 years), then at Queen Elizabeth Collegiate and
Vocational Institute in Kingston, Ontario, (2 years).
I stayed at home as a full-time mom from the time my first child was born
until my youngest was in third grade. During those years my family moved to
this area.
I am now in my 23rd year as a language teacher here at WMA. Over the years
I have taught French, Latin, and now Spanish as well. I have seen many
changes, but the kindness and courtesy of our families, the respect and
support of our faculty, and the enthusiasm for learning shown by our
students have been ever-present.
WMA is a very special school. It is a joy to belong to this wonderful
family.
As a world language teacher, I sometimes hear "Why doesn't everyone just
speak English?"
How enriching it is that everyone DOESN'T!!!
Our mission is to have you learn all you can about the people and countries
whose languages you are studying, and to have you appreciate the differences
you encounter while becoming proficient in those languages.
To do this we need to make the most of every moment we are in class
together. You are privileged to study language at an early age, when it is
easiest to learn. Being prepared for class in every way, with homework
done, materials with you, and an attitude of respect for yourself, for
others, and for this opportunity, will help make our mission a reality.
