8/31/11 - Handed out text books and discussed the independent reading program.  Students completed the the twenty questions questionnaire.  Summer reading test tomorrow.
9/1/11 - Summer reading test.  Finish definitions on literary terms chart for Tuesday.
9/6/11 - Student scavenger hunt; writing a summary; students should write a summary of
Lord of the Flies.
9/7/11 - Students worked on a worksheet dealing with theme.  Finish for homework.
9/8/11 - Reviewed worksheet on theme.  Students continued to work on their literary terms chart.
9/9/11 - Students worked in groups on allegory worksheet which must be finished by Monday.  They continued to work on their literary terms chart.
9/12/11 - Students worked on an SAT vocab packet.  They had time to complete their literary terms chart.  Charts are due tomorrow.  Test Wednesday.
9/13/11 - Students worked on SAT vocab.  We reviewed for the test tomorrow.  They began to work on a packet on writing good sentences.
9/14/11 - 3rd period - no class due to 4sights.  5th period - Lord of the Flies test.
9/15/11 - 3rd period - test.  5th period - SAT vocab practice.  Writing good sentenced.  Students should finish the first four pages of the "Writing Clear, Forceful Sentences" packet.
9/16/11 - Students worked on guided reading of the historical background for Beowulf.   They will have some time on Monday to complete this activity.
9/19/11 - SAT vocab practice.  Students finished the historical background activity.  Notes on Beowulf tomorrow.
9/26/11 - Students finished reading part I of Beowulf.  They also read the excerpt from Grendal and "Life in 999."  p32/1-11 for homework.
9/27/11 - We reviewed homework.  Students read part II of Beowulf.
9/28/11 - Students worked on p40/1-10, character chart, and p41 vocab.
9/29/11 - We reviewed p40 and 41.  Students took notes on aliteration, caesura, and kennings.  They have to find examples of both in the text.
9/30/11 - Students worked on Beowulf study guide.  They may hand this in on the day of the test for bonus points.
10/3/11 - We reviewed study guide and vocabulary for test tomorrow on Beowulf and the Anglo Saxon period.

10/5/11 - Guided reading of historical background for Middle Ages.
10/6/11 - Students finished guided reading.  We began to review it.
10/7/11 - Silent reading of independent reading novels.  Beowulf projects due 10/11.
10/11/11 - We reviewed historical background information.  Read and discussed "Lord Randall."
10/12/11 - Students read and paraphrased "Get Up and Bar the Door."  Finish questions at end of selection for homework.
10/13/11 - We reviewed questions.  SAT vocab practice.  Introductory information on Chaucer.
10/14/11 - Introductory notes on The Prologue to the Canterbury Tales.
10/17/11 - Students read, discussed, and took notes on the Knight, the Squire, the Yeoman, and the Nun.
10/18/11 - 3rd period - notes and discussion of Knight, Squire, and Yeoman.
5th period - Direct and indirect characterization of the Monk.  Students need to finish the Friar for tomorrow.
10/19/11 - Notes and discussion of the Friar, the Merchant, the Unreliable Narrator, and the Oxford Cleric.
10/20/11 - Students are working in pairs to characterize a pilgrim.  They will present their pilgrim to the class on Monday.
10/21/11 - Students viewed part of A Knight's Tale.  They were able to compare the character Chaucer with the writings of Chaucer.
10/25/11 - Students are presenting their pilgrim to the class. 
10/26/11 - Presentations of pilgrims.

11/15/11 - 3rd period - notes on non-fiction. 5th period - read and analyzed an article on the Penn State scandal.  Write a one page reflection for homework.
11/29/11 - Students worked on p428&429 vocabulary.  Vocabulary and roots quiz on Friday.
11/30/11 - We began reading of A Modest Proposal.  Students have a packet and they are answering questions in the margins as we read.
12/1/11 - Students worked on packet.  Quiz tomorrow on roots and vocab.  Packet due tomorrow.
12/2/11 - Quiz.  Students finished up packets and handed them in.
12/12/11 - Review of "A Vindication of the Rights of Women."
