*4th grade is a year for students to transition into more independent
learners.
*There is more homework in 4th grade.
*The curriculum is more detailed, and more studying is needed to master
concepts.
*The focus of reading instruction is developing strategies to improve
comprehension.
*Math includes more problem-solving, reasoning, and working through processes
rather than just learning concepts and computation.
*Students will become more skillful writers through the use of the writing
process. Grammar will also be a focus of language arts.
*Science units will include life science, physical science, and earth/space
science.
*Pennsylvania history/geography/government is the focus of social studies.
*PSSA tests will be administered in reading, math, and science in 4th grade.
*4Sight tests provide practice for PSSA tests several times throughout the
year.
