Welcome to my first grade web site. I have been teaching at Wilson
Borough Elementary School for 16 years. This upcoming year will be my
seventeenth year in first grade, and I love every minute of it. I earned a
Bachelor's Degree from Bloomsburg University. I also earned a Master's
Degree from East Stroudsburg University. I am a certified Reading
Specialist, but I love teaching first graders.
I am married to my wonderful husband, Rob. Addison is our beautiful little
girl. Our fluffy white dog is Buster Brown. I am so lucky to have
amazing parents, two big brothers(Mike and Steve), and one older sister
(Debbie). Sandy, Bob, Liz, Gary, Zachary, Emma and Grace, Tamara, Jared,
Alyssa, Nadine, Gary, and Mikaela are all so special to me.
In my spare time I love to read, walk, and go shopping. I love to draw
and paint. You might even see me at a stand at a local craft show. I enjoy
spending time with Rob, Addison and Buster and my family and friends. I
collect pencils (well over 500 by now), Boyd Bears, and Longaberger Baskets.
I love, love, love country music. Country line-dancing is so much fun. I love
to teach reading! Sharing Magic Tree House books and other great stories
always makes me smile. I enjoy helping my students grow as writers. I love
teaching them to write like the authors we study in class.
I have been to many country music concerts over the years, my favorite of
course, was George Strait. I even had a chance to shake his hand! Each time
I enjoy a concert, I am always reminded of one special concert that a first
grader graciously offered to take me to see. One of my students was moving
away at the end of first grade and his family wanted to say thank you by
taking me to see Leann Rimes. It is one of my fondest memories! Thanks
Sean! I hope you are doing well!
I won't forget all the wonderful birthday parties, too. There's nothing like
walking into a huge gymnasium and listening to a dozen kids chant your name
as you arrive for the birthday party. I hope you are doing well, Sarah!
There have been bowling parties (Dakota :), backyard parties (Alyssa P.),
swimming parties (Josh), and crawl on your knees for 2 hours at the Discovery
Zone parties (Jessica). I've even been lucky enough to honor my students at
graduation parties, too. (Alyssa :)
Noah, I will never forget the wonderful memory you and your mom created for
me! It is truly a highlight in my career as a teacher. Thank you for
nominating me in 2006 :)
I just want to say how blessed I am to have been your first grade teacher.
There is no other job as amazing as this! I hope you are all doing well and
doing your best!
My goal is to help the children develop as independent readers, writers and
thinkers. I hope to instill a love of learning that will last a lifetime.
I will encourage responsiblility and respectful behavior everyday as we work
together in a safe and happy classroom.
