From our mating behavior assignment:

---A great description of Home sapiens studenta "The Pennsylvanian Schoolgirl" by our equally talented (but less humble), Sean Saunders!

---A link was shared on my AP Bio discussion group, from BBC funniest mating ritual video http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/8281382.stm

----We have a very talented but humble poet amongst us who agreed to let me post their work:
SOME (not very serious) WORDS OF ADVICE

To all of the girls in Bio
I have something I want to say
There are a few things that you should know
If you want a very good mate

If you try to get our attention
By trying anything weird
Then the next time you try to look for us
We'll probably have disappeared

If you try to act really cool
You definitely won't get our  attention
And if you do something inappropriate while you're at it
Be happy with an in school suspension

Anything that you try to say
If it doesn't come from the heart
You might be able to get a boyfriend
But he probably won't be smart

The final thing I have to say
(though it may seem completely absurd)
The only way to get a boyfriend in AP Bio
Is act, not cool, but like a nerd!

Great discussion on Friday!  I am awed by the intelligent and thoughtful comments.  Certainly you will be worthy leaders of the future.

The Phila. Inquirer continues to address WHS AP Bio curriculum!   This article is not required but I thought of yesterday's "commons" discussion as I read this commentary "The urge to buy turns on ethics".  If you are interested here is the link:

3. Look at the pictures included in this article to find most of the answers for the following
    Reproductive facts:
-when do females reach sexual maturity?
    - how often do individuals spawn?
    - where does spawning take place?
    - how many eggs can a female produce?
-what conditions are needed for the eggs to hatch?
    - how long do juveniles remain in the river before migrating to the ocean?
    - which reproductive strategy is shown with this organism?
4.  How old and big can the Atlantic sturgeon get?
5.  How will DNA samples be used?
6.  How is technology being employed to study this population?
7.  Should we care?  Why or why not?
