Course Title:

AV COMMUNICATIONS & DIGITAL BROADCASTING I (#768)

 

Course Meetings:

Course Description:

This course examines the digital communication & production industry.   The course deals with instruction and practice in electronic field production and electronic news gathering. Areas covered include field camera operation, location shooting and editing of short video segments.  Film piracy and copyright laws will also be addressed.

Course Objectives:

 

Students will:

  • Develop a basic understanding of video communication and the concepts and principles behind the hardware and production techniques.
  • Develop a basic understanding of preproduction and making successful programs.
  • Develop a basic understanding of production as it relates to videography, lighting and audio.  Students will survey the art of directing--the camera and the people it records
  • Develop an ability to work with a partner and be an equal contributing member of a team.
  • Demonstrate completed projects.
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of the basics of postproduction.
  • Write an explanation of a project made and give information concerning the appropriate strengths and weaknesses of the project.

 

Attendance:

Students are expected to attend classes regularly.  Students are also expected to come to class on time and prepared.  Books are to be brought to every class unless student is instructed otherwise.

 

Evaluation:

Students will be evaluated and grades assigned based on demonstrated knowledge of the subject matter and ability to apply that knowledge to the solutions of assigned work.  Students will be credited for every project completed.    Projects and/or written work will be credited only on the day it is due.  If a student is absent, the work is due the day the student returns.

Grading will follow the system adopted by the Wyoming Area School Board as follows:

Additional Information:

 

ü  Any student caught plagiarizing work will receive a zero for his/her project.

ü  Any damage done to a computer, camera, tripod, etc. (including keyboards) will be repaired at the expense of the student.

ü  No food or drinks of any kind are allowed in the classroom.  This includes gum, cough drops, candy, etc.

ü  Discriminatory and/or objectionable language or behavior will not be tolerated.

ü  As per Wyoming Area policy, cell phones seen by the teacher will be confiscated.
