Assignment

  • We have reviewed the basics of research, summarizing articles and note taking.  If you would like an independent review of that, check my Teacher Web under the link: http://www.factmonster.com/homework/t1termpaper1.html
  • You will research a topic which is in some way related to Pennsylvania.  Examples are:  Pennsylvania sports team, celebrities born in Pennsylvania, famous historical events in Pennsylvania, famous places, inventions made in Pennsylvania, etc.  As long as your topic somehow relates to Pennsylvania, it is acceptable.  Check with me if you have any questions.
  • You will find at least three articles relating to your topic.  You will read the articles and get the main facts (remember how we summarized articles?).  Those articles must be cited in a running bibliography (or “List of Works Cited”) in a Word document using MLA citation format.  You will also be required to take notes from the articles on the notes cards that will be provided to you.  (you can summarize or use direct quotes, but be sure to indicate on your note card which it is).  Be sure to review the sample on my teacher web site (example of good note card).  Be sure each note card has a “source pointer.”
  • From your research, you will prepare a PowerPoint presentation of at least 7 slides.  The last slide must be your bibliography.  Do not start your PowerPoint until your research is approved by your teacher.  Your  note cards will be collected each day and checked.

In SUMMARY:  for this assignment, you will be doing research on anything having to do with the state of Pennsylvania.

·         You must use three different sources.

·         They cannot be Internet sources.
·         The must be sources that we learned in Pennsylvania Power Libraries

·         You will be given note cards to use for taking notes (remember the sample you were shown from the “links” page on my Teacher Web) http://www.factmonster.com/homework/t1termpaper1.html

·         You will keep your running bibliography in a Microsoft Word document which you save to yourself "on production"

·         From your research, you will prepare a Microsoft PowerPoint  presentation with at least 7 slides, not counting the last slide which lists your sources using MLA citation format.

·         You will also save your PowerPoint presentation to yourself on production.  If you don’t, you will not be able to access it from anywhere else and I will not be able to grade it.
