1. During our classroom study of crayfish behavior, four of the female
crayfish were found to carry eggs after the 2nd week of observations. If
Trixie had 214 eggs, Florence had 179, Matilda had 146, and Gertie had 161
eggs, how many eggs were laid in total?
How many data points do we have in this data set?
What is the range?
2. We separated Trixie into a new habitat which she shared with Randy, a
male crayfish, to see if he would become a father to Trixie’s babies. All the
eggs hatched, but two days later, we realized Randy was not the father we’d
predicted he’d be, but instead a typical crayfish. He had eaten 23 of the
babies. The next day he made a snack of 19 more, and it wasn’t until the
following day when he ate an additional 35, that he was removed from the
habitat. Luckily Trixie knew this was a likely outcome for her species, and
did not cry about it.
How many crayfish babies were left with Trixie?
