Ready to Read

Reading

  • Usage of Trade/Chapter books related to curriculum/genres studied

  • Students' assessments based on demonstration of daily skills daily which are  observed/recorded by teacher 
  • Students worked cooperatively in groups to discuss, reflect and make connections to reading  
  • Each child reads aloud each day to strenghten orally reading skills
  • Vocabulary Skills developed using dictionary and instructional strategies  
  • Students answer comprehension questions to demostrate their understanding of the reading and promote group discussions. Students are able to answer in completed detailed sentences.  

  • Literature Circles are demonstrated and utilized to encourage higher level thinking and questioning skills  

  • Children should be reading at least 20 minutes each evening and recording their books in a reading log

  • 3rd Grade students are required to read at least 30 books during the school year

    which may include books read at home and in class

  • Reading log provided in September and due in June (completed at home) 

  •  Book Reports Assigned – beginning in October and assigned every 6-8 weeks 

  • Book orders- at least 2 orders are sent home monthly for various reading levels 

  • Listening Center – picture books for students to listen and respond to 

  • Historical Figures - biography studies and student report at the end of the year

      Wax Museum Presentation of Student Reports -children are dressed as the individual they studied
