Plagiarism
Plagiarism is academic dishonesty. In other words, it is a big word for
cheating. If you are caught plagiarizing, or cheating in some other form,
then you will fail the assignment you are working on. The common form of
plagiarism is using someone else’s work as your own. That is, copying the
work and presenting that work as your own. To avoid plagiarism, you should
learn how to paraphrase and to use quotation marks. If you put the ideas of
someone else into your own words, you do not need to use quotation marks but
you must still cite the source from where the material came.
Under no circumstances should you ever use the work of a fellow student in
any of your written work. Consulting with other students is encouraged and
permissible, but when it comes to writing, the product must be your own.
Anything else is cheating!! Never let another student borrow an essay,
homework, etc. for the purpose of copying the work. Both students will
receive a zero and parents will be notified that cheating has taken place.
