A is for attendance. Our
day begins at 7:30 and ends at 2:10. Regular attendance is so important. This
helps your child establish routines and good work habits. Learning begins at
7:30, so if your child is late, they are missing out on valuable information.
B is for book clubs. I will be
sending home book orders from Scholastic Books. You are able to buy great
titles at a fabulous price. This is a great opportunity for you to build your
child's personal library.
C is for clipboards. We ask that
your child bring a clipboard to school (No book bags Please!), as your childs
folder will be sent home daily. The S. T. A. R. folder will hold their
homework, as well as any other forms of communication between home and school.
D is for donations. It is not
required to donate items to the classroom, but we greatly appreciate items
donated during the school year. We do many science experiments, cooking
activities, and art projects. We always need something for our hands to stay
busy!
E is for emergencies. Hopefully
we will not need to contact you with an emergency, but sometimes things
happen. Please make sure we have current telephone numbers so we can reach
you.
Fis for Field trips. We take
several educational, and exciting field trips during the year. We love for our
parents to come and chaperone. If you sign up as a chaperone, keep in mind,
no younger siblings are allowed and we can only take a required number of
chaperones with us.
G is for going home. We need to
know how your child is going home. Please let us know in writing if their mode
of transportation will change from one day to the next.
DO NOT TELL YOUR CHILD TO TELL THE TEACHER ABOUT A CHANGE IN TRANSPORTATION!
We must have this in writing. Do not send an email during the day about a
change in transportation for your child. I may not get a chance to see my
email until after school. Please send the note in your child's folder on the
return to school side. Mrs. Marlowe checks folders every morning and we will
make note of the change.
His for homework. Your child
will have homework nightly. It is a review of skills that have already been
introduced to your child in the classroom. All homework has a purpose.
It should never take more than 10 to 15 minutes to complete the front and the
back.
I is for interviews. We will
interview each student at the beginning of the year so each child has an
opportunity to get to know his/her new friends. After each child has been
interviewed, they are placed in a class book. Each child will have an
opportunity to bring the book home to share with his/her family.
J is for journals. Each
child will have a writing, poetry journal, and Monday journal. The children
will have the opportunity to practice the skills that have been demonstrated
during model and shared writing. The children will learn to write about
experiences they have had, as well as creative their own stories.
K is for kindergarten report
card. Every nine weeks your child will receive a copy of the kindergarten
report card. We will have a conference at the end of the first nine week
period to review and answer any questions about your child's progress.
Lis for lunch time.
Kindergarteners go to lunch at 10:50. Please send your child's lunch money in
a sealed envelope with his/her name on it, my name on it and label it Lunch
Money and place it in their star folder. This is very important. You can also
pay online. Go to the parents place and look for PAMS.
M is for medication. Any
medication that needs to be dispensed during school hours must be given to
the school nurse (not the teacher) by the Parent. Your child will be sent to
the nurses office at the appropriate time to receive their medication.
Nis for newsletters. A weekly
newsletter will be sent home every Monday in your child's folder. This
newsletter will include current projects, class activities, supply needs, and
upcoming events.
Ois for On-your-own!
Once students get settled, we ask that you let your child come to the
classroom on his/her own in the morning. Letting your child walk into the
room, put away his/her belongings, and settle into morning routine will help
establish your child's sense of independence. This will also stress to your
child that you trust her/ his abilities.
Pis for playground. The students
look forward to recess on the playground. We want to make sure that this is a
safe environment for them. Our rules are as follows:
1. No pushing or pulling on other students.
2. Students must come down the slide feet first and on their bottoms.
3. Children are to stay on the playground, unless given permission to go
inside for water or restroom breaks.
Qis for questions. I can be
reached at 578-1231, ext. 111, although I might not be able to talk to you
until my planning period or after school, you can leave a message on my voice
mail. You may also email me by going to our website.
Ris for rules. During Open
House, we will go over classroom rules and will send a copy home with you. We
also have them posted on our website (after the first week). I believe the
children should help set the rules for the classroom. I usually guide the
discussion but if the children set the rules then they do a better job of
following them. This also gives them ownership as well as builds classroom
community.
Sis for shoes not flip-flops. We
will have P.E. twice a week and students will need to wear tennis shoes on
these days.
Tis for treasure box. If you
have any small inexpensive toys, McDonalds prizes, etc. you would like
to donate, please do so. The treasure is an added incentive for good behavior
or a kind deed. We offer treasure box every Friday.
U is for units. We will let you
know weekly through our newsletter what we are studying so that you can ask
your children questions about his/her day.
Vis for volunteers! We love our
volunteers! We always can use an extra hand. The PTA always needs your
support as well. You can help in the classroom one day a week reading with
students, you can help me by getting supplies ready for projects, or you can
help by doing something at home. If you cannot come into the classroom, you
can send supplies in when they are needed. If you are interested in helping, I
will need to send you the required forms you must fill out before you can
volunteer in our room.
Wis for Websites. Please check
out our website weekly. We will have general information posted, pictures of
students work, field trips and special occasions. It is updated every Sunday
night.
Xis for exit. If a child moves
during the school year, all current fees due (lunch fees, lost library books,
field trips, etc.) must be paid in order to complete the transfer form.
Yis for yearly activities. You
will receive a copy of the school activities in your handbook. Also,
activities are posted on the website so you can make sure to plan to attend
special events. Always check the site for changes or times for upcoming
events.
Zis for ZZZZZs at night. We do
not have naptime in kindergarten so it is very important that your child
gets a goodnight sleep. Your child needs to be bright eyed for a day of
learning!
