I have been teaching high school mathematics since 1989. My first job was
at Allendale-Fairfax High school. In 1994, my wife and I left Allendale and
I have been at Greenwood High ever since.
I was the first high school teacher in Greenwood School District 50 to earn
National Board Certification (2000). In 2002 I was certified to teach AP
Statistics, and each of the past two summers I have worked as a reader for
the AP Statistics Exam. In 2005 I was named to "Who's Who Among American
High School Teachers." I have also served as the chair of the math
department of Greenwood High School since 2006. In April of 2009 I earned my
Masters Degree from Walden University.
After graduating from Lower Richland High School(in Columbia) in 1983, I
attended Francis Marion College (now Francis Marion University) where I
graduated in 1987 with a B.S. degree in Mathematics. In 1992, I married
Anna Corley of Newberry,(who is a Lander graduate) and two years later we
moved to Greenwood. We have one son, Bryce, who was born in January of
1998. We also have two dogs but I have no idea when their birthdays are!
My mission as a teacher is to excite students about learning, to show them
how to think logically and solve problems, to teach them things that will
stay with them far longer than academic content (such as personal
responsibility and how to make good choices), to encourage them even when I
become discouraged with them, and to help them realize that they are capable
of more than they give themselves credit for.
