Honors Assignments

Honors Work Fourth Quarter 2009-2010

French I.
Do the Test culturel on page 338.  Answer all questions with complete 
sentences on page 339.  Read pages 340-341 and do the Activite 
(letter).  Read the four post cards on pages 342-343 and find four 
factual mistakes in them.  Then take the Test culturel on page 392.

French II.
Read the short story “L’affaire des bijoux” on pages 412-421.  Answer 
all questions with complete sentences.
Read the section “Images du monde francophone” on pages 422-430, 
writing down all new vocabulary and making sure you understand what 
you are reading.  Afterwards, take the test on page 431.

French III/IV.
Read pages 372-379 and write down all new vocabulary.
Read pages 410-414, 416 and 418.  Write a one-sentence summary of 
each paragraph in French.  Do not copy—use your own words


Honors Assignments Third Quarter 2009-2010

French I.

•	Visit the web site of the catalogue company Les 3 Suisses 
(les3suisses.fr).  Write down 25 words that you find that you already 
know.  If you can’t find that many, write some down to learn.

•	Read pages 236-241 and do the Activite culturelle p 241.

•	Do the Petit test culturel on page 286, do page 287, read 
pages 288-291 and do all activities (289, 290, 291).


French II.

•	Without cheating, read “Un Americain a Paris” and guess the 
right answers to the questions (pages 252-257).

•	Read pages 260-269 and do the quiz on page 269.  Write a one-
sentence summary of each paragraph in English.

•	Read “Le veritoscope” and answer all questions in French 
(pages 312-317)


French III and IV.

•	Watch a French movie and write down all the words you hear 
that you understand.  Then summarize the plot in French and tell why 
you did or didn’t like the movie.

•	Read pages 372-381, taking careful notes.


Honors Work for French 2nd Quarter 2009
French I.

•	Answer all questions pp 128-129.
•	Read pages 130-131 and write the “Lettre a Patrick.”  
Identify the 5 students by reading their descriptions page 133.  Read 
pages 182-183 and write the “Lettre a Brigitte.”
•	Watch a French movie and write down all the words you 
understand (use English subtitles to help you).  If you need 
suggestions of appropriate movies, ask me.

French II.

•	Read “Camping de printemps” pages 144-149.  Answer all 
questions in French.  Note all new vocabulary.
•	Read “Quatre surprises” pages 198-203.  Answer all questions 
in French.  Note all new vocabulary.
•	Watch a French movie and write down all the words you 
understand (use English subtitles to help you).  If you need 
suggestions of appropriate movies, see me.

French III.

•	Watch a French movie and record the words you understand as 
you watch (if you need suggestions of appropriate movies, please see 
me).
•	Write a report on your movie that includes: le titre, la 
date, le/la cineaste, les acteurs principaux, un sommaire de 
l’intrigue (au present) et les raisons pour lesquelles tu aimes / 
n’aimes pas ce film.
•	You must turn in a rough draft to me and go over corrections 
with me before turning in the final version.
•	Read “La Couverture” and answer all questions pp 92-96.
•	Read “Asterix et sa bande” 100-101.  Note new vocabulary.
•	Read “Jeanne d’Arc a Chinon” 106-107.  Note new vocabulary.

French IV.

•	Read “A l’Hotel de la plage” 238-239 and choose one of 
the “Expression ecrite” themes for a paragraph you will write in the 
passe compose and imparfait.  Turn in rough draft to me.
•	Read “Une etrange aventure” 246-250 and answer all questions 
in French.  Note new vocabulary.
•	Watch a French movie and record the words you understand as 
you watch (if you need suggestions of appropriate movies, please see 
me).
•	Write a report on your movie that includes: le titre, la 
date, le/la cineaste, les acteurs principaux, un sommaire de 
l’intrigue (au present) et les raisons pour lesquelles tu aimes / 
n’aimes pas ce film.

Honors Work for French 1st Quarter 2009

DUE MONDAY, OCTOBER 12.  IF A ROUGH DRAFT IS REQUIRED, IT IS DUE 
MONDAY, OCTOBER 6

French I.

•	Read pages 1-9 in your textbook.  Do the “activites 
culturelles” on pages 3 and 7.
•	Read pages 32-33.  Do the matching exercise on page 33 but 
don’t bother with “un jeu.”
•	Find at least three “talking” French dictionaries on line and 
try them out (for numbers, for example).  Write a short evaluation of 
their strengths and weaknesses.  Which one was the most helpful and 
why?  Would an audio dictionary be helpful to you in your day-to-day 
learning of French?

French II.

•	You are to write three paragraphs.  The first is about 2 
people you like, considering them together so you will use plural 
verbs and adjectives.  The second is about someone you dislike.  The 
third is about someone in your family.  Describe these people’s 
nationality, family status, profession and activities.  Explain why 
you like or dislike them.  Make sure you use plenty of descriptive 
adjectives from pages 46-48.  
•	You must turn in a rough draft to me and go over corrections 
with me before turning in the final version.
