About The Teacher

Who is the First Grade Teacher?
I was born in Raleigh, North Carolina.
I am more than 55 but less than 65 in age.
My favorite book is Amelia Bedelia. I love to read!
In May, 2009 Mr. Burns went to live with God. Mr. Burns and I had one son,
Allan, an attorney in Richmond, Virginia. Allan is married to Carrie Smith
Burns of Chattanooga, TN. They met at Furman University. Allan and Carrie
are proud parents of Laura Avery Burns born on August 5, 2009 and William
Allan Burns III born on March 30, 2012. I'm a proud, happy, excited
grandmother, GIGI.
I have taught kindergarten, first, second, and third grades during my 30
years of teaching. Also, I enjoyed team teaching and having a first/second
grade combination. I have had the privilege of teaching in the public
schools in North Carolina (Raleigh), Maryland (Annapolis),Ohio
(Centerville),and in private schools in Ventura, California and Pawleys
Island, South Carolina.
The most influential person in my life was my best friend, my loving husband
of 36 1/2 years, Mr. Burns. He always wanted me to be happy in life, honest,
respectful to others, and always wanted me to be a role model for my children
at school.
Three people who have influenced me greatly in my educational world are Mrs.
Dixie Stack, Director of Curriculum for the State of Maryland, Dr.
Emerson Johnson, past Head of School at LPS, and "Grand", Pendleton
Bogache's Grandmother.

Additional Information:
Graduate of Barton College in Wilson, N. C. (3 1/2years)
12 hours towards a Masters Degree (Special Education and Reading) from Loyola
University in Maryland

My famous words to my students are "BE THE BEST YOU CAN BE". Go FIRST
GRADERS!

I have very high expectations for EACH first grader. We reach for the
STARS with super behavior!
                                    "ALWAYS TRY!
                               Never, Never Give Up!"
