This webpage is designed to answer questions about Response to Intervention. Response to
Intervention, RTI, is a program that came about under the federal IDEA law. (Please see the IDEA/RTI
link to gain more information about what IDEA is and how RTI came into existence.) The purpose of RTI
is to track students in core-subject areas particularly Reading and Math. The students of Putnam
County benchmark three times a year and this data is used to keep track of each students progress. If a
child displays a need in Reading then they receive an additional 30 minutes of reading a day. The same
can be said for Math.
Under IDEA this program pertains only to "at-risk" students, however, both Algood schools require all
students to receive RTI. This comes in two categories: Remediation or Enrichment. Each child is placed
in a class that fits their own personal needs. In the elementary level we provide Reading and Math
these classes are called FUNdamental class or "Fun" Class. For the middle school level we provide
Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies ( Social studies is an enrichment class only due to the fact
that there is not a benchmark for Social studies, yet) these classes are called Power Academic Class or
PAC's.
Please see Fun Class or PAC's links to get information on testing schedules, general info, and copies of
updated materials as I receive new information.
