Welcome Battle Geeks!

I'll post photos and information about our techological adventures throughout the school year on this page.

Reading Eggs (grades K & 1) and Study Island (grades K-5) are ready for you to explore and will be embedded as concept reinforcement (practice) and remediation at every grade level. If you haven't seen the letter sent home in your child's agenda ask for another copy at Literacy Night, September 20. Reading Eggs provides a unique login when a parent enrolls using their home computer.

We've adjusted the Study Island login procedure for K-2nd Grades to use district assigned lunch numbers as username and password. However, some usernames/lunch numbers were already assigned to Study Island users at another school. If so, your child's first name was placed in front of the lunch number for their username and the password remained their lunch number alone.

FasttMath is being completed by different grade levels and groups within grade leves. This Scholastic published program reinforces student development of their math facts: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. All of second and fourth grade participate several times a week for approximately 15 minutes. Selected groups of students in third and fifth grade also participate two or three times a week.

If you have questions about these programs please contact me via phone or e-mail at 209-5747, ext 269 or rosenow_s@hcde.org

BattleBots Robotics Team

This Spring we return to a one day a week schedule Mondays 3:00-5:00PM in the Forum, working on the four parts of our program: Design, Programming, Teamwork and Project Presentation. The 2011 First Lego League Challenge is called Food Factor and focuses on how food is produced, distributed, protected from contamination and preserved. We will participate in the TVA Showcase in May. Nineteen third graders have joined our team with four remaining fourth graders. (Fifth grade rotates off in the spring to allow room for the new participants.)

Meeting one day a week has allowed another program to be introduced: Jr. FLL. This program is designed for a smaller group of first and second graders. We will explore the basic philosophy and concepts of the First Lego League while experimenting with Lego building blocks and simple machine mechanisms. This program called Lil' Bats &   Lil' Bots will meet on Wednesdays 3:00-5:00PM in the Forum.
