About The Principal

Hi! I statrted working with the Polk County School system in 1990. This is
my eighteenth year at Benton Elementary. After teaching 7th/8th grade social
studies for 12 years, I then taught 3rd - 5th grade resource for 3
years. This is my second year as principal of Benton Elementary. Last year
was a large learning experience for me. I love being with the children and
hope to help make improvements with the help of the faculty and community for
our school.
I graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with my
Bachelor's Degree in 1990. Later, I completed my Masters Degree in special
education in 1993 at UTC and in 1997 I received my Educational Specialist
Degree in administration. I love children. I truly love
my job and believe that I am doing exactly what I was called to do.
I have a 24 year old son named Jonathan who attends UT in Knoxville and a 1
year old daughter, Izabel. I have a Yorkshire Terrier named Cleo. I spend most
of my free time with my 80 year old father. I love antiques, geneology, and
anything to do with history.

of a modern society; to develop and maintain good physical and mental
health; to communicate effectively; to make sound moral judgments; to think
critically and creatively, and to understand his role as an effective
citizen who contributes positively to the community and the world in which
he lives.
