FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
How can I help my child's reading comprehension? When your child is reading to you, or you are reading to your child, make frequent stops throughout the story and ask your child questions about what he/she read. After you have read the story ask your child to retell the story back to you. Before you read the story ask your child to make predictions about what they think will happen in the story. What websites can help my child's reading skills? Please refer to the links icon to view websites that can help with reading. How can my child improve his/her spelling? When your child receives his/her spelling word list give them a pre-test to know which words they have difficulty spelling. Have your child make flash cards for the words they are having difficulty with. Make sure your child studies these cards daily. Your child may also type out the spelling words they are having difficulty with. I have also included the link to a website which may be used for additional practice on weekly spelling words. How can I build my child's vocabulary? Talk to your child about everything you do everyday. Make every moment a learning moment. Talk about your trip to the park and what you see and hear there. When you go to the grocery store talk about how the food you buy at the store gets to the store. Don't pass up any opportunity to talk to your child. |
