I have been teaching Reading and Language Arts at CCA since 2002. I really enjoy working with
students and helping them become better readers and writers. Sixth grade is a big transition year,
and I want to help your student be as successful as possible.
In addition to teaching, I am also the Chair of the New Middle School Orientation Team and the
Chairperson of the Sixth Grade Team. I also sponsor three different activities: National Junior Honor
Society (for 7th through 9th graders), Destination Imagination and Middle School Model United
Nations.
When I'm not teaching, I volunteer at First Baptist Church and with Hope for the Inner City. I enjoy
performing occasionally at the Chattanooga Theatre Centre. My hobbies include running, playing
piano, and reading (of course!).
My bachelor's degree is in Theatre and English education from Oral Roberts Univeristy in Tulsa,
Oklahoma. I have a divinity degree from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville,
Kentucky. I earned a Masters of Arts in English/Rhetoric and Composition from the University of
Tennessee at Chattanooga in December 2009.
I am married to a teacher, Roberta Echols, who currently teaches at CSLA. We have 2 children, one a
freshman in college and the other a high school sophomore.
The goal of our class is to help students become better readers and writers.
