Week of February 13-17:
Reading: We will be reading the story "Good-Bye Curtis" p.178-195 this
week. The skills we will be focusing on this week will be contrasting and
comparing, sequencing , and summarizing. Make sure your child reads something
aloud every night. The story should be read aloud at least twice at home
during the week.
Language- DOL[Daily Oral Language] daily. We will be working with
adjectives describing color, shape, size, and how many this week. DOL quiz
every Friday.
Spelling- The words will be contractions this week. We will work with these
words using various activities. They go with the story from "Goodbye- Curtis"
on the 9 week list under the story. We will be completing various activities
to reinforce these words. Our test will be on Thursday.
Math- This week we will be working on the x4 multiplication facts and all 100
subtraction facts. Your child will have 2 1/2 minutes to complete the x4 quiz.
Our timed tests occur every Wed. Each Wed. your child will receive their new
set of facts. We will randomly have the 100 addition facts & 100 subtraction
fact quizzes. Please keep reviewing those. Your child will have fact and
practice homework every night except Friday. Please make sure you check and
sign their homework nightly. This week we will be measuring in feet and
inches; finding area using pattern blocks; identify, describe, and compare
geometric solids; choose appropriate tools for measuring and drawing a line
segment using centimeters; multiplying by 1, 10, & 100. We are moving into
harder concepts in math. Please make sure you are checking your child's work
EVERY night. This will
ensure future success.
Science- We will complete Chapter 9 - Matter. We will have a study guide and
a test this week. The test will be Thursday or Friday.
Social Studies- We are slowly completing a map skills booklet.
Spelling Bonus word: chemical change
Your child should always have an AR book with them. This is a proven system
to increase reading comprehension. Keep them reading!
