Dear Families,
I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving and enjoyed the time off. Things
are going to be very busy between now and Christmas break. We will be
testing chapters and units before the break while the information is fresh
on the minds of the students. We will begin reviewing soon for nine weeks
tests and midterm tests.
We will have a Science and Social Studies test this week. Please check your
child’s planner for an exact date.
Students that are in the Christmas Play will miss some class time this week
for practice and the field trip. There will be some class work that they
will need to make up. Please check with them to make sure they have
completed their work.
MULTPILCATION – All math classes are practicing multiplication daily. Please
help your child review at home. Many students would benefit from practice
quizzes. I am proud of the progress they are making. We have several
Masters of Multiplication!

2nd 9 Weeks
1. estimate - to find an answers that is close to the exact amount
2. reasonable - not extreme
3. attribution – characteristic
4. dividend - the number being divided by another number
5. divisor - the number that another number is being divided by
6. product - the answer to a multiplication problem
7. quotient - the number that results from dividing (the answer)
8. factor - a number that is multiplied by another number to find a product
9. zero property - states that the product of 0 and any number is 0
10. commutative property - states that when the order of two factors or
addends is changed; the product or sum is the same Ex. 4 x 5 = 5 x 4
11. associative property - states that you can group addends or factors
differently and still get the same
answer
Ex. 3 + ( 8 + 5 ) = ( 3 + 8 ) + 5
12. identity property - states that when you multiply one by any number, the
answer is that number Ex. 9 x 1 = 9
13. distributive property - states that numbers can be broken into smaller
numbers for
calculating
Ex. ( 32 x 5 ) = ( 30 + 2 ) x 5 = ( 30 x 5 ) + ( 2 x 5 )
