To instill in CDS students a lifetime love of health, recreation, good nutrition, and fitness. Not every child will be a star athlete, but every child can attain his/her highest level of personal fitness.
All Grades
Each 9 weeks every student will receive a conduct grade, determined by sportsmanship, attitude, and obedience of class rules. Conduct Grades will be determined as follows:
E - 0 G - 1 S - 2-3 N - 4-5
U - 6
Each 9 weeks every student will also receive a participation grade. See sections below for more detail.
K-5th P.E.
All students need to wear sturdy athletic shoes on P.E. days (no MaryJanes, Wallabies, or similar). Girls, make sure your hair is tied back with hair bands or ponytail holders. No necklaces, hoop earrings, etc.
The K-5 participation grades is based on a) wearing the appropriate shoes for class, and b) participation in the class.
Middle School P.E. (6th-8th)
Middle school students are required to dress out for P.E. This consists of a CDS student P.E. uniform: navy athletic shorts, a gray CDS P.E. T-shirt, athletic socks, and athletic shoes. There will be no exceptions. All uniforms must fit appropriately, and the student's name must be printed in the white block on the shorts and the inside of the shirt. (example: "D. Forbus")
Athletic shoes must be appropriate for running a mile run. (During class each week, every student will be required to complete a mile run.) There is no color dress code for the shoes. Students should bring their uniform in a small gym bag, along with personal necessities (e.g., deodorant, comb, brush, etc.) Girls should tie their hair back with hair bands, ponytail holders, etc. No Jewelry (necklaces, bracelets, hoop earrings) should be worn during P.E. class, stud earrings are acceptable. The middle school participation grade is based on dressing out: 25% - shirt 25% - shorts 25% - socks 25% - athletic shoes 100% - total
