Christmas Around the World
Culture Social Studies Unit
Mrs. Paula’s 2nd Grade

During the month of December, we will travel around the world learning about
different cultures and how they celebrate Christmas. This unit will finish
with our traditional American celebration on Dec. 16 in the classroom. Each
child will be responsible for completing the information listed and present
it to the class on his/her day. This will be for a test grade in social
studies. Please help your child, but remember this is their project.
Thanks! Mrs. Paula

1.	What is the name of your country and were is it located?
2.	What do they call Christmas in their country?
3.	What day is it celebrated on?
4.	What do they eat?
5.	What do they call Santa? Does he look like our Santa?
6.	Are their any special songs or food they eat?
7.	Do they have a Christmas tree?
8.	What do you like or dislike about their traditions?
9.	What else did you learn about your countries Christmas?

Rules for grading:

A Turned in timely, all questions answered and written
down neatly, student presents project to class.

B Day late, questions unanswered, not clearly written
    or doesn’t present to class.

C 2 days late, not completely finished and/or not able
    to read.

D More than 2 days late, not finished and/or not able
    to read.

F Does not turn in project.

If you would like to send in a special food that goes along with your country
or a special craft that you’ve read about, please let me know. This would be
an even better way for the children to see or taste Christmas traditions from
their special country. World Market in Turkey Creek has several sections
that offer many ideas.

Here is a helpful list of websites that I have found useful. I’m sure there
are many more.
