I am a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
My degree specializes in kindergarten through fourth grade. However,
my certification and degree are for K-8 Multi-disciplinary Learning. This
means I am certified to teach any subject to K-8th graders. I also hold
an associate's degree in music education. I began teaching at Yates in
1996. I've taught first grade for one year and am starting my
thirteenth year in kindergarten, for a total of fourteen years experience.
I am so happy to announce that in January of 2003, I was selected as Yates
Teacher of the Year (TOTY). Then, in February of 2008, I was selected as
Yates TOTY again and also TOTY of Cleveland City Schools. What an honor!
It's quite a humbling experience of which I am grateful to be a part.
I have been married to my wonderful husband, Jeff, for almost 16 years, in
September. He's a financial advisor with a Wealth Management Firm in
Chattanooga. We've lived in Cleveland since 1995. Jeff is a graduate of
Cleveland High School. We met while he was in Lousiana attending college.
Louisiana is where my parent have lived for the past 18 years or so.
We have two sons, Guy and Cole. Guy is in the seventh grade at CMS. Cole
is in the third grade at Ross. This wil be the first year in a long time
thta I've not had one of my children in the building with me. :( They are
both "ALL boy", and fill my life with much excitement and joy!
My hobbies include singing, cooking, sewing and decorating. I love spending
time with my boys, husband, and our 2 Westies, Jack & Sam. My favorite color
is blue and my favorite books as a child were Little House on the Praire and
Little Women. I enjoy working with children and can't imagine doing anything
else with my life!
My mission is to assure all children of their potential abilities. I
believe every child can learn if provided with the correct environment and
stimulation.
Children are reflections of the people in their lives. Therefore, I intend
to be a positive influence and encouragement to all my students. Remember th
eold Chinese proverb... What a father speaks in the home, a child speaks in
the street.
As my mentor once told me,
"All children have gifts...some just open their packages sooner than
others." I know that just as not all children crawl or walk at the same
time, all children will not learn to read, write, do math, play ball, etc at
the same time.
