English / Language Arts classes:
(we're continuing State Standard 2/Communication and will also cover
aspects of standards 3 and 6)
Monday:
- complete item sampler that applies to language arts for bellwork
- review types of sentences and compete handout over compound and complex
sentences
- complete "EveryDay Edit" to practice proofreading skills
- review what we've learned about speeches using the textbook
- learn new vocabulary words and review one of the "12 Powerful Words"
- examine speech outlines
- analyze example speech and critique for elements of writing
Tuesday:
- complete language arts item sampler for bellwork
- receive graded practice writing assessments and review expository writing
- correct writing assessments or work on blue ribbons
- complete practice item sampler over speeches and review
- receive graded research paper and begin speech outline
Wednesday:
- language arts sampler or vocabulary review for bellwork
- continue speech outline and begin speech notecards
- analyze visual aid types and their appropriate use for different types of
speeches
- examine methods of using MS PowerPoint computer software as a visual aid
for speeches
Thursday:
- review vocabulary for bellwork
- utilize mobile computer lab to find pictures for speech and save to flash
drive or email to my school address OR create powerpoint to use with speech
- work on blue ribbons if needed
Friday:
- vocabulary review
- vocabulary quiz
- finish notecards for speech
- analyze and critique speech of partner (students will be paired)
- edit and revise speech according to partner's recommendations

Reading classes:

Monday:
** story for "NaNoWriMo" due today for extra credit **
- examine vocabulary from biographical essay "Always to Remember"
- evaluate portions of "Always to Remember" and distinguish between main
ideas and supporting details
- Analyze nonfiction selections from _Scope_ magazine and review
comprehension questions
Tuesday:
- complete reading item sampler for bellwork
- **TEST over "Always to Remember"
- copy new vocabulary from _Scope_ and begin to identify synonyms and antonyms
- continue reading _Scope_ magazine / review comprehension questions over
nonfiction selections
- read AR or earn blue ribbons
Wednesday:
- analyze new vocabulary from _Scope_ magazine for bellwork
- create sentences with partners
- identify characteristics of a fable and examine examples
- create own example of a fable in groups to share with the class
Thursday:
- review vocabulary or complete item sampler for bellwork
- Utilize mobile lab to locate another fable and complete webquest
on "TeenInk" website
Friday:
- Review vocabulary
- Vocabulary quiz
- copy notes on new poetry term ("N")
