Welcome to the 2007-2008 school year! We are really excited to have the
opportunity of teaching you child in the sixth grade.
Janet England will be teaching all Math, Science and Social studies classes
and Pat Allen will be teaching all Reading, Spelling and English classes.
Grades will be taken a number of ways: tests, quizzes, worksheets,
workbooks, daily work.
*Parent Letters are sent home every Monday, unless we are out of school then
it will be on Tuesday. This includes all papers graded from the past week
along with any other important information.
Sixth grade does not send out mid-nine week reports, since we send home
weekly reports. Students have been told to keep all papers sent
home, or write the grades down so they can keep up with their average of
each subject. We feel you can keep up with your child's progress better with
the weekly reports.

Each nine-week grading period, your child will need 17 AR points for a
fourth of their reading grade. Two Points will be required in non fiction,
the rest will be students choice. Reading is a very important aspect of
learning, and I know you’ll encourage your child to read books of interest
to him or her.
Each nine-week grading period, your child will be required to do a science
experiment for a grade. They may do this at anytime during the nine-week
period. We also require a group Science fair project and Social Studies
Fair project. Students may also do their own project in each of these for
extra credit.
Test schedule (unless interrupted by a short week etc...)
Spelling tests are given on Thursday. Reading vocabulary tests are every
Wednesday. Reading Tests are given on Friday. Math Tests are given on
Friday.
All other test subjects are given when the chapter ends. Study sheets are
give out at least two days before a science or social studies test.
All students need to work on the Study Island Web Page for continued
learning on State TCAP sixth grade subject skills.
