2nd 9 weeks Language Syllabus

Course Description: The study of language arts at the seventh grade level 
integrates reading/literature skills with the study of language conventions, 
writing, spelling and vocabulary to create a well-rounded, balanced language 
arts program. The curriculum is based on the adopted texts and centers on 
the integration of the District’s seventh grade standards for reading and 
writing. This course also requires the reading of six Essential Literature 
titles during the school year. 



Standards to be covered:  

•  Know and use appropriately the meaning, forms, and functions, of nouns, 
pronouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs.

•  Distinguish among and analyze imaginative forms of literature such as 
folk tales, myths, and legends.

•  Distinguish between biography and autobiography.

• Use capitalization correctly.


Assessments:
Students progress toward the standards will primarily be assessed through 
daily assignments, quizzes, tests, and projects. Quizzes may be announced or 
unannounced. Tests will be given at the end of each Chapter.
