Tips to help your child be successful First Graders!!

TIPS TO HELP YOUR CHILD BECOME A BETTER READER
Read to your child daily.
Ask your child to tell about a book he/she read at school.
Tell your child about your favorites stories.
Listen to your child read.
Limit television and TV game time.
Read other materials such as magazines, maps, food boxes, newspapers, and street signs.
Go to the library. It's free!!
TIPS TO HELP YOUR CHILD STUDY FOR SPELLING
Have your child write each spelling word 5 times.
Have your child give you the spelling test.
Practice writing on dry erase or chalk boards, tracing words on someone's back, or use magnetic letters.
Use games such as Hangman or tic-tac-toe to practice.
Pour sugar, flour, or corn meal into a shallow bowl. Have your child "write" their words in it.
Use colored shaving cream to write spelling words on a waxed sheet of paper.
Go on a scavenger hunt. Hide the words in your house on Post-it notes. Have your child look for them and then write them down.
