Biography: Lt. Cdr. Duff Thompson

Lieutenant Commander Duffy “Duff” Thompson graduated from San Diego State
University in 1975 and was commissioned an Ensign in the United States Navy
upon completion of Aviation Officer Candidate School (AOCS) in October of
1976. Lt. Cdr. Thompson completed initial and advanced Naval Flight Officer
(NFO), Training in 1977. After training in the Fleet Replacement Squadron,
VS-41, he transferred to Air Anti-Submarine Squadron Thirty Three for his
first Fleet tour aboard the USS America (CV-66).

Other Sea tours included Air Anti-Submarine Squadron Twenty-Nine aboard the
USS Enterprise (CVN-65)and Air Anti-Submarine Squadron Twenty One aboard the 
USS Carl Vinson(CVN-70). Shore Tours included Fleet Aviation Specialized
Operations Training Group Pacific, Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare Training Group
Pacific and Weapons Training Group Pacific.

Lt. Cdr. Thompson served as the Operations Officer of Tactical Air Control
Squadron Eleven (TACRON 11) aboard the USS Okinawa (LPH-1) during the first
Persian Gulf War, Desert Storm. Lt. Cdr. Thompson accumulated over 2400 Hours
of flight time and over 2000 Hours in the S3-A Viking, carrier based
Anti-Submarine Warfare aircraft. Personal decorations include the Navy
Commendation medal, the Navy Achievement Medal, Expert Rifle and Expert Pistol. 

Since retiring from the Navy Lt. Cdr. Thompson has been a Navy Junior Reserve
Officer Instructor formerly at Farragut High School in Knoxville Tennessee
before coming to Gallatin High School to start this Unit. He was born in
Jackson, Mississippi and is married to Patricia Thompson.

Lt. Cdr. Thompson holds a B.S. in Accounting from San Diego State University
and a Masters in Business Administration from National University. Other odds
and ends include being a Navy Master Training Specialist, Naval Instructor
as well as a certified Professional Association of Diving Instructors
"Divemaster", a U.S.Sail Sailing Instructor and a JMIC Master Air Rifle
Instructor.
