Grading

In kindergarten, our grades are not determined by numerical averages; but instead by standards based skills assessment. Students do not complete work to turn in for a grade. Assessment tasks are mostly completed by the student individually with manipulatives, pictures, and so on. As we practice particular skills as a class, we sometimes participate in independent, paper and pencil type activities. I do collect several of this activities in order to assess the progress of each student. I will correct any incorrect marks, however, I will mark the work according to the rubric below.

Work Rubric

Check mark and smile

1.  All directions were followed.

2.  Work was done neatly

3.  Name was written on work

Check mark

Only 2 of the 3 listed above were done

Check minus

1 or 0 of the 3 listed above were done

Any papers that come home without these marks have been used as instructional practice with my supervision, and are not used for assessment.  If your child does not complete his or her work in the amount of time given, the work must be completed during free times such as centers, or recess.  If this occurs, I will make a note of this on your child's paper indicating that the work was not completed when assigned.  Please encourage your child to do his or her best possible work. Thank you for your support!
