Announcements

Parents,

There will be no spelling test this week. I hope you all enjoy our FAll
BREAK, Thursday and Friday. I will see your children back at school next
Monday.

Our field trip was wonderful! Thank you to all the chaperones who went,
helped, took pictures, cleaned up, etc. You are an amazing group of parents!
I am always glad to have such great parental/family involvement. I hope
everyone had a good time.
I will download all my pictures to shutterfly.com so you can have access
to the ones I took. If you will send me your email address, I will add your
name to my list on Shutterfly, and you will be able to view the pictures.

Spelling Tests will be each Friday. The words will be sent home each Monday.
There will be 10 words with the vowel patten we are working on that week and
2 high frequency words. Please help your child study for the test each week.

Family Night SucessMaker is every Tuesday! Please try to bring your child
(3:30-7:00) for additional math practice on a computer tutorial. You
will only need to stay about 30 minutes, but you can stay longer if you
like. Every time your child utilizes this program, he/she is improving math
skills. It has proven to increase TCAP scores. Mrs. James and I will be
providing this program in Stuart's computer lab every Tuesday from now until
spring.

T-shirt sales began October 6. Please return order forms by October 15th.

The first 9 weeks ends October 10th.

Fall Break is October 16-17.

Report Cards will be sent home October 23.

Teachers have a Staff Development Day on November 4th. No students should
report to school that day. That is also Election Day! Be sure to vote!

November 26-28 are our Thanksgiving Holidays. The school will be closed.

December 19th ends our first semester and begins our Christmas Holidays.

Please see the calendar page for additional dates to remember.

Everyone needs to be here each day around 8:00. A student is considered
late if he/she is not in his/her seat by 8:15.

Student meals each day this year are as follows:
Breakfast $1.25
Lunch $2.00
Juice/Milk $.50

Adult Meals each day this year are as follows:
Breakfast $2.00
Lunch $3.75
Holiday Meals $5.00

Sneakers are required for gym everyday. Sneakers are also best for recess.

Just in case you need the "2008-2009 School Calendar," I have included those
dates on our "Calendar Page."

Fridays are ICE CREAM days! If you want your child to be able to
purchase ice cream in the cafeteria, please be sure he/she has money in
his/her account or pocket. Ice cream is $.50 each. This is a great incentive
for making good choices throughout the week.

Your child is bringing home a paperback reader every night to share with
you. Please have him/her read it to you several times. Your child should be
able to return to school each day with the book, ready to read it
confidently, fluently, and with inflection. Perfect practice at home will
help accomplish this goal. (I say 'Perfect practice' because practicing it
correctly is different from just practicing.) Please help and encourage good
reading, not just word calling. The more time you invest in your child's
education at home, the better he/she will feel about his/her day at school.

Anytime you see that your child is struggling with schoolwork, please
provide a little extra help at home. It will let him/her know you are aware
of the struggle and that you want to be helpful. Don't let little problems
become big ones. Remember: Each day is the foundation for the next. Thank
you so much for your cooperation and support.

Our lunch time is from 10:50-11:20.
Our Music/Library/P.E. classes are from 2:15-3:15.
Our check-in/check-out day in Library is Tuesday. Our first check-out day is
August 25th. Books must be returned the following week in order to check-out
again.

Art and Guidance meet the same week every other week.
Art class is on Thursday from 1:15-2:15 and begins August 14th.
Guidance is on Friday from 12:15-1:15.
