Originally from Jackson, Mississippi, I share my love of the deep
south and its many wonderful traditions with my husband of forty (40)
years, W. Gary Smith. We have two adult children, one son-in-law, two
grandchildren, and two miniature schnauzers.
I have served as President of Alpha Delta Kappa, an honorary
teachers' sorority, been a member of P.E.O., Opportunity for Adult Reading,
and Delta Kappa Gamma. I have been the Neighborhood Chairperson for the
March of Dimes, and have actively campaigned for the political leaders who
share my beliefs and concerns.
I was honored by being selected as "2006 Teacher of the Year" for George R.
Stuart, Cleveland City Schools, Cleveland/Bradley County, and the Southeast
Region of Tennessee.
I earned my Master's + 45 Certification from Cumberland University, Master
of Arts Degree from the University of South Alabama, and Bachelor of Science
in Education Degree from Mississippi College.
I enjoy working with children, reading, camping, canoeing, fishing,
shopping, cooking, and traveling. We have been to the Holy Land with a group
from First Baptist Church! It was an amazing pilgrimage! We are going to
Venice, Vienna, and Paris this summer! Did I say we love to travel? :)
Teaching is the BEST profession in the world!
It is an honor to be a part of it.
To foster a life-long love of learning and the desire to continue this
educational journey with enthusiasm and the knowledge that each
person DOES make a difference.
