March 4/5-4/16
In Writing: We are working on writing paragraphs in order to compare and
contrast. As TCAP time draws near(week of April 19), we will be spending most
of our time focusing on Science, so your child will not have a writing
assignment each day.
In Science: We will be reviewing heredity and symbiosis for the next few
days. You can help by talking to your child about how they got their hair
color, eye color, height, etc.
Symbiosis refers to the relationships between organisms such as:
parasitism - one organism harms another in order to survive(ex. a tick and a
human)
mutualism - both organisms benefit (Ex. birds and hippos - the birds eat
small insects off the hippos and the hippos have fewer small insects on them
(yuck!)
commensalism - one organism is helped and the other is not harmed or given a
benefit (Ex. barnacles growing on the backs of whales-the barnacles get a
home, but it doesn't hurt or help the whale)
