Classroom Policies

AR
At the beginning of the school year each student will take a STAR reading
test to determine their reading level. They will take it periodically
throughout the year to determine growth. Based on this reading level each
student will be given an AR point goal for each 9 weeks. By reading at school
and reading 20 minutes a night at home Monday - Thursday this should be an
attainable goal. AR points will be figured into each student's reading grade.
Students will be given a personal agenda at the beginning of the year.
Please write the name of the book your child reads and how many minutes he/she
reads on the appropriate date each night. Also, a parent signature will be
required. Please do not sign for the whole week on Monday. Students who do
not read and have their agenda filled out and signed will have 5 minutes taken
off their recess time.

Homework
I do not typically send home written homework. Any unfinished work for
the day will become homework. Each child is expected to do their AR
reading, and study their spelling and vocabulary words nightly. We will
have Spelling tests on Fridays and tests over the reading story and
vocabulary words on Fridays. You will receive a weekly letter on Mondays
with the spelling and vocabulary words. Also, the weekly letter will let
you know of any other tests coming up that week.

Monday Folders
Your child will be bringing home a weekly folder every Monday. It will
contain your child's graded work, a weekly letter, and a sheet for you to
sign. Please do not return the graded work. Please sign and return the
folder by Wednesday.

Morning Snack and Water Bottles
Students are allowed to bring in a morning snack. Healthy snacks are
wonderful. Please do not send in candy. Send a snack that can be eaten in
just a few minutes. Do not send in a drink. Students can bring in a water
bottle and leave it at school. Flavored water is not allowed.
