Sept 29 - oct 3
Working on finishing projects involving measurements of student cars. Focus
on calculations using dimentional analysis as well as geometric concepts to
calculate such things as how many rpn a car wheel is turning at 60 and 100
mph. and the different number of revolutions required for the inner and outer
tires of a car when it turns. Still working on scale drawings of the cars and
thier paths. Later in the week we may begin measuring slope with various
equipment. Test Thursday. Begin reviewing for the final after that.
Remember next week is the last in the term.
Sept 22-26 Circles and slope Various projects studying physical applications
of circumference on automobiles and bicycles. Gear ratios and circumference.
Distance traveled. Simple machines if we have time begin slope as a measure
of grade of land. use of inclinometer
Sept 15-19
Lines and circles. Study the calulation of slope with the formula and by
counting the rise and run of a graphed line. Produce an estimate of pi by
directly measuring circular objetcts and graphing diameter vs circumference
Best fit lines and slope apply here.
Sept 8-12
This week we will focus on algebra problems in geometry. Specifically those
involving parallel lines cut by a transversal and those involving central and
inscribed angles of circles. Also the construction of irrational roots for
the purpose of producing boxes of various volumes. We may begin slope by
studying the golden ratio Friday.
Sept 2-5
Monday create organizer showing examples of 4 main types of algebra problems
involving parallel lines cut by a transversal and central and inscribed
angles of circles
Tues-Wed
Construct a cube of unit size using compass straightedge and construction
paper
Construct a rectangular prism with volume 5 times the unit cube with a square
base and a height of one unit
Friday Test
Aug 25- Aug 29
Monday
Using protractor to produce angles of a desired measure. Solving equations
with a graphing calculator. Produce a pie chart using the above skills.
Quiz.
Tuesday
Produce Graph of Sin function by direct measurement
Discuss ordering rational numbers
Wednesday
Produce cube of desired size to hold water within acceptable tolerance.
Discover multipliar to double volume of cube.
Thursday
irrational numbers; pythagorean theorem; fly spider problem solved with
manipulatives
Friday
