WHO IS HE??

After receiving an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Walters State 
Community College, Mr. Nickels became a police officer at the age of 19 
before new laws took effect on police officer age requirements. He spent 7 
years with the Rogersville Police Department. During that time he graduated 
from the TN Law Enforcement Training Academy in Donelson, TN. and attended 
numerous in-services and schools for Crime Scene Photography, a DEA drug 
school, DUI, and many others. In 1986 he joined the U. S. Navy and spent 
three and one half years aboard the nuclear powered aircraft carrier, USS 
Dwight D. Eisenhower, CVN 69. Upon completion of his obligated service he 
remained in the active naval reserves out of Knoxville being assigned to a 
cargo handling battalion. After his active service he joined the Hawkins 
County Sheriff's Department where he worked for three years. He then was 
hired as Director of the Hawkins County 911 district. He left there and 
returned to college and received a bachelors degree in history with a 
concentration in secondary education. He minored in Criminal Justice. While 
in college he worked as a deputy clerk for the Hawkins County Circuit Court 
Clerk. In 1998 he was hired in his present position. He was fortunate to be 
the first teacher in the Criminal Justice program here at the center for 
technology and has tried to build a first class program. He loves his job 
and enjoys teaching students.

Preparing students for careers as criminal justice professionals.

Our mission in this class is to teach students the basics of the crimianl 
justice system in order to prepare them for careers of their choice in this 
field of human services. The basics include those things that police 
officers, lawyers, and corrections officers need to do thier jobs: 
professionalism, fairness, justice, trustworthiness, and respect for others 
as well as self-respect.
