Monday, August 15th:

Today your children were given a letter with instructions for accessing their
text online. Their PA texts were given in class. We also went over the
requirements specific to my math classes.

This is a great class. It is demanding and the curriculum is designed to meet
the needs and abilities of your child.

I sent a letter home with your child that outlines the rules and consequences
for our team and for my classes. As 6th grade students, all children do know
what is expected. We will reinforce this through our consistent policies on
the teams.

After the information session, we will talk about math corrections.
Corrections are an essential part of the learning process. Students will
practice these with me, and an assignment that reinforces this will be the
homework assignment.

Tuesday: Today we will start in the text. We will define expressions,
classify expressions, and translate verbal expressions into numerical or
variable expressions. Homework will consist of both the practice and reteach
page for lesson 1.1. If you are dowloading these pages from the internet,
the workbook pages will not correspond with the website page. Just use the
lesson numer.

Wednesday: We will review the homework. We will move on to lesson 1.2,
Order of Operations. Small groups will review the lesson during class, using
practice exercises.

A homework assignment will be made on this lesson.

Thursday: We will finish working on order of operations. Students will have
two items for review: One paper has an enrichment activity on translating
expressions. The other side is an order of operations review.

In addition, in touching on basic problem solving work, students have a list
of word problems to complete for tomorrow.

Friday: I plan on giving a review assignment on the first three lessons in
the text. I also hope to start talking about our Acc. Math curriculum.

No homework will be assigned.
