When do grade sheets go home?

The first day of EVERY week. I send grade sheets home weekly to
keep parents and students aware of progress made in each of my
classes. If a grade sheet does not come home on the first day of
the week I will send home a note. You should receive some type
of written communication from me weekly.

When will errors on grade sheets be corrected?

Regrettably, there will be errors on grade sheets from time to
time. Errors on grade sheets will be corrected on the following
week's notes. This is unavoidable, considering the number of
scores that are entered each week.
Your child should staple the error assignment to their signed
grade sheet and turn it in to me. I will correct the error.

When is a good time to talk to you? When is your planning period?

I have 3rd period planning from 11:30-12:25. E-mail is the best
way to get in touch with me. I will generally answer e-mails
with-in 48 hours.

What should I do if I need a conference?

Please e-mail or call me during my planning period (11:30-12:25).
Look at each weeks grade sheets carefully as this will be a guide
as to how well your child is doing. Most questions about grades
can be answered over the phone or by e-mail.

How can I keep track of my child's grades?

I use an online grade book called Teacher Ease. With a password
you are able to log on and view your child's grades whenever it
is convient for you. I can also send out e-mails from the grade
program to let you know of missing assignments and low test
scores.

Is late work accepted?

Generally, but only for partial credit. 20% of the points will
be deducted for late assignments. It MUST be stapled to a signed
grade sheet. It MUST be turned in by Friday of the week it is
listed on a grade sheet. After one week it will not be accepted.
It will then be listed as "missing-can not be made up."

How does my child get missing work when absent?

All assignments are written on the board daily and remain there
for one week. Students may also check the homework section of my
web site to get the homework that they have missed. I have a
absent student folder that worksheets, and any other work is
placed in. It is your child's responcibility to check this upon
returning to school. If you child is absent for more than
one week, they need to see me.

How important is the Science Fair?

Head Middle Magnet School being a Math and Science Magnet makes
the Science Fair a big deal. It counts for a large portion of
the 3rd nine weeks grades. (About 1/5 of the total grade will be
Science Fair related.)

When should we begin working on the Science Fair project?

Start thinking about it now. Once you have an approved topic
from your Science Teacher begin working on it a little every
day. The experiment should be finished by January 1st. The
board and report should be completed by January 30th. More
details as the year progresses.

When will I receive information about the Science Fair?

Generally the Science fair packet goes home around Thanksgiving.
This gives students time to start thinking and planning their
project. It is best to have an approved topic BEFORE
Thanksgiving break so you can work on the project
over the Christams break. This way you are not trying to work on
it at the last minute.

What does a check on my child's paper mean?

There are some assignments that I only check for comprehension.
I find that if I have just introduced a topic it can be unfair to
those who need remediation to grade the assignment as correct or
incorrect. So I read the papers to see if students as a whole
understand the concepts taught and they receive credit for
completeing the assignment, a check. And on Teacherease
it will appear as "handed in/turned in."

What can my child do for extra credit?

Weekly grade sheets and coupons are the ONLY extra credit for
Mrs. Cancasci's classes.
Grade sheets are worth 5 points weekly.
Coupons are worth 5 or 10 points on Homework or class work.
